What is Udiliv?
Udiliv containing the active ingredient ursodesoxycholic acid is a bile acid, a substance naturally produced by the body that is stored in the gallbladder. The medication works by decreasing the production of cholesterol and dissolving the cholesterol in bile so it cannot form stones. It can be used to dissolve gallstones in patients who cannot have gallbladder surgery and to prevent gallstones in overweight patients undergoing rapid weight loss. Some patients may also use it to treat a certain type of liver disease called primary biliary cirrhosis.

How is Udiliv used?
Udiliv is usually taken orally 2 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken with a meal along with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting the doctor, thinking it is not working, as it may take up to several months before the full effects of the treatment are felt.
