What is Cataflam?
Cataflam containing the active ingredient diclofenac potassium is considered a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by stopping the bodyís production of certain natural substances to relieve and treat pain, fever and inflammation. It is mainly prescribed to treat signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Some women may also use the medication to treat painful menstrual periods.

How is Cataflam used?
Cataflam should be taken orally 2 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with or just after a meal along with a full glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patientís condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication if the effects of the treatment is not felt immediately as it may take up to 2 weeks of regular use before the full benefits of the drug take effect.

Adverse effects
Patients using Cataflam may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Headaches
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness

Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:

  • Edema
  • Rapid or unexplained weight gain
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Mental or mood changes
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Jaundice
  • Difficult or painful urination
  • Excessive fatigue

Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Cataflam is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.

The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
