What is Arcoxia?
Arcoxia with the active ingredient etoricoxib is classified as a selective inhibitor of cyclo-oxygenase 2 nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking certain substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Some people may use the medication to treat or relieve chronic musculoskeletal pain, acute pain and ankylosing spondylitis but it is mainly prescribed to treat osteoarthritis, gout and rheumatoid arthritis.
How is Arcoxia used?
Arcoxia is usually taken orally once daily or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with food to prevent an upset stomach but it works quicker if taken without food. The drug should be swallowed whole with plenty of water and not chewed, crushed or split to prevent too much of the medication from being released at the same time. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patientís reaction to the medication and the condition being treated. It can be used to treat and control arthritis symptoms but cannot be used as a cure for it.
Arcoxia may cause side effects in patients such as:
- Abdominal pain
- Weight gain
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- High blood pressure
- Swelling in legs or ankles
- Blurred vision
- Muscle cramps
- Chest pain
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Arcoxia is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
