What is Armotraz?
Armotraz belongs to a type of medications called nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitors. The active ingredient anastrozole can be used alone or along with other medications and treatments such as radiation or surgery to treat breast cancer in women who have passed menopause. The action works by reducing the amount of estrogen produced in the body to shrink and slow the growth of certain types of breast tumors that require estrogen to grow.
How is Armotraz used?
Armotraz is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patientís condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as some patients may require continuing the treatment for up to 5 years.
Patients using Armotraz may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Upset stomach
- Loss of appetite
- Hot flushes
- Vaginal bleeding
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Difficult or painful urination
- Skin lesions, ulcers or blisters
- Vision problems
- Decreased bone density
- Pain in the upper right part of the stomach
- Mental or mood changes
- Signs of infection
- Bone pain or fractures
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Armotraz is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
