What is Calutide?
Calutide containing the active ingredient bicalutamide belongs to a group of medication called nonsteroidal anti-androgens. The medication works by blocking the action of androgens in the male prostate to stop the growth and spread of cancer cells. It can be used alone or with other medication to treat metastatic prostate cancer.
How is Calutide used?
Calutide is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patientís condition and their response to the therapy. The medication can be used to help stop the growth and spread of cancer cells but cannot cure prostate cancer.
Patients using Calutide may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Hot flushing
- Upset stomach or nausea

- Weight changes
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Vision problems
- Painful or bloody urination
- Signs of infection

The medication can be absorbed through the skin and should not be handled by women.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
