What is Duolin?
Duolin is a combination of 2 bronchodilating substances salbutamol and ipratropium bromide. Both drugs work by relaxing the muscles around the airways to allow easier airflow into the lungs. It is a long term preventative and treatment for symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and coughing in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Some people may also use the medication to treat asthma.
How is Duolin used?
Duolin should only be used with a nebulizer that changes the solution into a fine mist to be inhaled directly into the lungs. It is usually inhaled via a mouthpiece or face mask 1 to 4 times daily or as directed by your doctor. Breathe in calmly and deeply through your mouth for 5 to 15 minutes or until the mist stops forming in the nebulizer chamber. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the medication.
Patients using Duolin may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dry mouth
- Mouth or throat irritation
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Worsening breathing problems
- Eye pain
- Vision problems
- Muscle cramps
- Painful urination
- Irregular heartbeat
- Chest pain
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Duolin is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
