The medication works by collecting small bubbles of gas that are trapped in the stomach and intestines to form larger bubbles that are more easily expelled by infants. It is used to relieve abdominal pain (gripe, colic or wind) caused by the infant swallowing air by allowing the trapped air to be passed by burping or passing wind.

Irovel containing the active ingredient irbesartan belongs to a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. The medication works by preventing the action of certain natural substances that tightens blood vessels so blood can flow more smoothly and allow the heart to pump more efficiently. The tablets can be taken alone or along with other medicine to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) which helps prevent heart attacks and strokes. Patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes may also use the drug to treat kidney diseases caused by diabetes and high blood pressure.
