What is Lanoxin?
Lanoxin containing the active ingredient digoxin is prescribed to patients suffering from congestive heart failure or an irregular heartbeat. It is a cardiac glycoside which operates by changing the mineral levels in the heart. This action produces a steady and regular heart rate, reducing the strain on the heart and helping to circulate the blood more efficiently. It can also decrease the risk of blood clots which can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
How is Lanoxin used?
Lanoxin is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. It is advised not to consume a high amount of foods that are high in fiber while using the medication as they may inhibit the absorption of the drug.
