What is Orbax?
Orbax (Orbifloxacin) Oral Suspension is a used to treat skin infetions including wounds and abscesses in cats, skin and soft tissue infections in dogs and urinary tract infections or cystitis in dogs. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic that can treat infections caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase positive staphylococci, Pasteurella multocida, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., Citrobacter spp., Enterococcus faecalis, ß-hemolytic streptococci (Group G) and Streptococcus equisimilis.

How is Orbax used?
The prescribed dosage will depend on the infection being treated and the severity of the infection. Follow the dosage instructions provided by your vet.

Dogs will usually be prescribed a dosage of 1.1 to 3.4 mg/lb (2.5 to 7.5 mg/kg) body weight daily. Cats will usually be prescribed a dosage of 3.4 mg/lb (7.5 mg/kg) of body weight daily.

For most tyeps of infection, your pet's treatment will be prescribed for two to three days after cessations of clinical signs and symptoms. When being used to treat urinary tract infections in dogs, treatment is usually prescribed for ten days.

Obrax Oral Suspension should be applied as follows:

  1. Shake the bottle well to equally distribute contents before each use.
  2. Attach the plastic press-in dispenser flush with the top of the bottle before using for the first time.
  3. Hold the bottle upright and insert the syringe tip through the opening in the dispenser. Press down gently until it is fully inserted.
  4. Turn the bottle and syringe upside down. Pull the syringe plunger out slowly to draw in the suspension. Use the markings on the syringe to ensure you withdraw the correct quantity.
  5. Turn the bottle up again before pulling out the syringe.
  6. Hold the pet's head facing upward with one hand and insert the syringe tip into the animal’s mouth with the other. Slowly press on the syringe plunger to squeeze the dose into the mouth.
  7. If unable to administer the suspension directly, place some Orbax Oral Suspension onto its paw and let them taste it, then present the syringe for them to lick.
  8. After use, replace the cap on the bottle, rinse the syringe with water and keep in a cool, dry place for reuse for the next dose.

Adverse effects
Possible side effects in dogs include vomiting, convulsions, depression, lethargy, anorexia

Possible side effects in cats include blindness, mydriasis, anorexia, ataxia, depression/lethargy, vomiting, convulsions, abnormal retina, hypersalivation

Warnings
Orbifloxacin can cause arthropathy in Dogs in the rapid growth stage (between 2 and 8 months of age in small and medium-sized breeds, and up to 18 months of age in large and giant breeds) can sometimes develop artropathy when taking Obbofloxacin.

Orbax Oral Suspension is a pet medicine and must not be taken be humans. It intended for use in dogs and cats only - do not administer to any other pets.

Some cats can experence retinal problems due to fluoroquinolone use. Ensure you do not to exceed the prescribed dosage and observe your car carefully.

Pets with CNS disorders can be at risk from taking orbflaxacin. Use with caution in any animals with CNS didorders.
