What is Probenecid - AFT?
Probenecid – AFT belongs to a class of drugs known as uricosurics. It works by helping the kidneys get rid of uric acid to lower high levels of uric acid in the body. By lowering the uric acid levels it can help prevent gout and gouty arthritis in patients. The medication can prevent gout but cannot be used to treat acute gout attacks. Some doctors may also prescribe the drug along with certain antibiotics as it can help prevent the body from passing them in the urine to increase the effectiveness of the antibiotics.

How is Probenecid - AFT used?
Probenecid – AFT is usually taken orally 2 times daily or as prescribed by your doctor. The tablets should be taken with food or an antacid along with a full glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication. In the case of sudden gout attacks, the patient should wait until the attack is over before starting the medication again.
