What is Salazopyrin EN?
Salazopyrin EN with the active ingredient sulphasalazine is considered a disease modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD). It is used to reduce inflammation in inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and crohnís disease. The medication may also reduce inflammation and stiffness in the joints, therefore, some patients may use it alongside other medicines to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
How is Salazopyrin EN used?
Salazopyrin EN should be taken orally 2 to 3 times per day or as directed by your doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patientís reaction to the medication. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not broken, crushed or chewed to prevent too much of the drug to be released at one time.
Salazopyrin EN may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Upset stomach
- Loss of appetite
- Ringing in the ears
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Flu symptoms
- Painful urination
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Salazopyrin EN is not always suitable for all patients.
