What is Soframycin Cream?
Soframycin Cream containing the active ingredient framycetin sulphate is considered an aminoglycoside type of antibiotic. It works by preventing bacteria from reproducing and killing the bacteria that are causing an infection. The medication can be used to treat a variety of infections types including cuts, wounds, burns, scalds, ulcers, boils, impetigo, furunculosis, sycosis barbae, otitis externa and paronychia. It can also be used to treat secondary infections such as lice and scabies.

How is Soframycin Cream used?
Soframycin Cream should be applied topically 1 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patientís response to the therapy. Prior to applying the medication, wash and dry your hands and the affected area thoroughly. Apply a thin layer to the affected area and gently massage it into the skin. It is advised to not wrap the treated area with dressing or tight clothing.

Adverse effects
Patients using Soframycin Cream may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

  • Stinging, burning or itching at application site
  • Skin irritation
  • Inflammation
  • Dry skin
  • Sensitive skin

Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.

Continue using the cream until the prescribed dose is complete, even if symptoms have disappeared, as abruptly stopping the treatment can allow the infection to return and the bacteria to become immune to the antibiotic.

Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Soframycin Cream is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.

The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
