What is Accuzon?
Accuzon Injection (Ceftriaxone Injection) is used in the treatment of several different bacterial infections. It is an cephalosporin-class antibiotic stops the growth of bacteria.

How is Accuzon used?
Accuzon is administered by injection into the muscle (intramuscular injection) or into the vein (intravenous injection). Make sure the person injecting has receive sufficient instructions how to do this properly.

Ceftriaxone differs between individuals. Follow the dosing instructions provided by your doctor.

Adverse effects
Accuzon Injection can cause pain, redness and swelling around the injection site. This is a normal reaction. If it becomes severe or continues for a long time, check with your doctor as this may be a sign of an allergic reaction to Ceftriaxone.

Other common side effects experienced when taking ceftriaxone injections include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or headache.

The following list of side effects are more sever, and you should notify your doctor immediately if you notice any of these:

  • bruising or bleeding more easily than usual
  • changes to your regular heartbeat
  • seizures
  • unusual weakness or tiredness
  • jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin)
  • dark/pink/bloody urine
  • change in the amount of urine
  • painful urination, pain in your back or sides
  • chest pain
  • trouble breathing
  • changes to your mood
  • general confusion

Some people have developed Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea when taking antibiotics like Ceftriaxone for a long time. This may have symptoms of persistent diarrhea, severe abdominal pain or cramping, or blood or mucus in your stool. This can be a serious problem and you should contact your doctor if you notice any of these side effects

Prolonged treatment with Accuzon can also cause oral thrush or vaginal yeast infections.

Warnings
Do not give Ceftriaxone Injection to babies with high blood bilirubin levels, or to premature babies. There is an increased risk of side effects in the groups.

Anybody who has had an allergic reaction to antibiotics in the past should make sure there doctor is aware of this before taking ceftriaxone. You should also advise of any medicines you are currently taking as this may cause some unwanted drug interactions.
