What is Aldara Topical Cream?
Aldara Topical Cream containing the active ingredient imiquimod belongs to a class of medication called immune response modifiers. The medication works by increasing the activity of the immune system to fight abnormal skin growths. It can be used to treat certain skin conditions such as actinic keratoses (flat, scaly growths on the skin caused by too much sun exposure) on the face or scalp and superficial basal cell carcinoma (a certain type of skin cancer). Some people may also use it to treat warts on the outside of the genitals or anus.

How is Aldara Topical Cream used?
Aldara Topical Cream should be applied topically once per day or as directed by a doctor. Wash and dry your hands along with the affected area before applying the medication. Apply a thin layer of the cream into the affected area and gently massage it until it disappears. Use a new packet of cream for each use. It is recommended to avoid covering the treated area with bandages or waterproof coverings but cotton gauze or underwear is permitted. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to remove any excess cream. The medication can be used to treat abnormal skin growths but cannot cure the conditions.
