The medication can be used to treat a variety of mental conditions such as depression, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and social phobia.

Priadel is considered a mood stabilizer type of medication. It contains the active ingredient lithium carbonate and works by altering the way the nerve cells respond to chemicals in the brain. It is used to prevent certain types of depression and mania episodes in people with bipolar disorder. Manic symptoms may include hyper activity, poor judgment, rushed speech, aggression, anger and a reduced need for sleep.
