Brand Name: Coversyl
Generic Name: Perindopril Erbumine
Form: Tablets
Manufacturer: Serdia Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

What is Coversyl?
Coversyl containing the active ingredient perindopril erbumine is considered an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor type of medication. The tablets work by blocking certain natural chemicals in the body to help blood vessels relax and blood to flow more smoothly. It can be used alone or along with other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and certain types of heart diseases. Lowering high blood pressure can help patients prevent heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems.

How is Coversyl used?
Coversyl is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times daily or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken along with a full glass of water to prevent dehydration. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. The recommended maximum dosage is 16mg within a 24 hour period. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as there are generally no visible signs of high blood pressure.

Adverse effects
Patients taking Coversyl may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Dry cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Upset stomach
  • Constipation

Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:

  • High potassium blood levels
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Signs of infection
  • Chest pain
  • Fainting
  • Jaundice
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Decrease in sex drive or performance

The medication can be used to treat hypertension but cannot be used as a cure for the condition.

Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Coversyl is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.

The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
