What is Emla 5% Cream?
Emla 5% Cream is a 2 amide-type local anesthetics type of medication containing the active ingredients lidocaine and prilocaine. It works by blocking nerve signals in the body to temporarily numb the skin and surrounding area. It is used to lessen the pain before procedures such as inserting a needle, skin grafts or minor skin surgeries.

How is Emla 5% Cream used?
Emla 5% Cream should only be applied topically to unbroken skin and the genital area. The length of time the medication needs to stay on the skin will depend on condition being treated and the patient’s reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. Do not apply to broken skin or open wounds unless directed by a doctor as it can change the amount of medication absorbed by the body. Wash your hands immediately after applying the cream as well as avoid getting the product in the eyes, nose, ears or mouth as numbness can lead to injury because you cannot feel particles in the eyes or other dangers.
