What is Fluvoxin?
Fluvoxin containing the active ingredient fluvoxamine is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). The medication is used mainly to treat various neural conditions such as major depressive disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), social anxiety disorders (SAD), panic disorders and post traumatic stress disorders (PTSD). It works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain to prolong their mood enhancing effects.

How is Fluvoxin used?
Fluvoxin is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Dosage will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. It is recommended for patients that only need one dose to take it at bedtime. If the patient requires 2 doses daily it should be taken once in the morning and once at bedtime. It is essential not to stop the medication without a doctor’s consent as it may cause severe withdrawal symptoms such as mood swings, headaches, fatigue and sleep changes.

Adverse effects
Patients using Fluvoxin may encounter side effects such as:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Changes in sleep patterns
  • Anxiety
  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Weight gain
  • Decreased sex drive or performance

Consult a doctor immediately should the side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:

  • Seizures
  • Agitation or irritability
  • Hallucinations
  • Trouble concentration
  • Memory problems
  • Loss of coordination
  • Confusion

Warnings
Patients who have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the past 14 days should not consume the medication as they will have chemical interactions. Drinking alcohol while using the medication substantially enhances the chance the patient will experience side effects.

Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Fluvoxin is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.

The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
