What is Frontline Spray?
Frontline Spray is a long lasting and effective control of fleas and ticks residing on your pet. The active ingredient fipronil belongs to a class of medications called broad spectrum insecticides. The medication works by disrupting the insects central nervous system, causing paralysis and death and will kill up to 100% of all existing adult fleas in less than 24 hours. The spray will continue to kill ticks and fleas for up to one month and the waterproof solution will remain effective even if the pet goes swimming or is bathed.
How is Frontline Spray used?
Frontline Spray should only be applied topically as directed by a veterinarian, usually once every 30 days. To apply the medication, simply ruffle the pets coat to expose the skin and spray evenly over the entire body and make sure the coat is thoroughly wet. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage as it will depend on the pet’s weight, condition and their response to the therapy.
Adverse effects
Frontline Spray is generally well tolerated but may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Respiratory problems
- Seizures
- Trembling
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting
Contact a veterinarian immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
The medication should only be used in dogs or puppies and cats or kittens 8 weeks of age or older.
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Frontline Spray is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
