What is Neurontin?
Neurontin containing the active ingredient gabapentin is considered an antiepileptic or anticonvulsant type of medication. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain to restore mental balance and change the way the body senses pain. The medication is used to help control certain types of seizures in patients who have epilepsy. Some patients may also use the drug to treat neuropathic pain caused by a variety of conditions such as diabetes and shingles.

How is Neurontin used?
Neurontin is usually taken orally 1 to 3 times per day at evenly spaced intervals or as directed by a doctor. The doctor may start you on a small dose and gradually increase the dosage, do not adjust the dosage without a doctor’s consent. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy.

Adverse effects
Patients using Neurontin may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
