What is Nitrolingual?
Nitrolingual containing the active ingredient glyceryl trinitrate belongs to a class of medications called nitrates. The medication works by dilating blood vessels to reduce the strain on your heart and make it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body. It can be used before physical activities to prevent and treat angina (chest pain) in people who have coronary artery disease.

How is Nitrolingual used?
Nitrolingual should be taken 5 to 10 minutes prior to activities that may cause attacks of angina or at the first sign of an attack. The patient should sit down prior to applying the medication. It should be pumped directly onto or underneath your tongue and should not be inhaled. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Any additional sprays should be administered after 5 minutes but patients should not use more than 3 sprays within 15 minutes. People using the spray for the first time and patients who have not used their medication for 6 weeks or more will need to prime the pump before using it. To prime the pump, simply point the container away from yourself and release 5 to 10 test sprays.
