What is Nizral?
Nizral containing the active ingredient ketoconazole is considered an azole antifungal type of medication. The medication works by killing fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membranes. It can be used to treat infections caused by fungus, which can invade parts of the body including the nails, skin, urinary tract, mouth, throat or esophagus. The drug cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
How is Nizral used?
Nizral is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. To prevent an upset stomach, the tablets should be taken with a meal along with a full glass of water. Take the medication at the same time each day as it works best when the drug is kept at a constant level.
