What is Prograf?
Prograf can be used alone or along with other medication to help prevent the body from rejecting any kidney, heart or liver transplants. The active ingredient tacrolimus works by weakening and decreasing the activity of the immune system to prevent it from attacking any transplanted organs. The medicine belongs to a class of medication called immunosuppressants.

How is Prograf used?
Prograf can be taken with or without food but will need to be taken the same way each time to maintain the level of medication in the body. The capsules should be taken twice daily evenly spaced 12 hours apart or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s blood test results, weight, condition and their reaction to the medication. Do not discontinue the medication or increase the dosage without consulting a doctor as it may lead to an increased risk of serious side effects.
