What is Rosulip?
Rosulip (Rosuvastatin) is a statin (or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) used to prevent the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with heart disease or who have high risk factors of obtaining heart diesease. It can also be used in cases of hypercholesterolemia (high cholestrol) to decrease low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and to increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Rosuvastatin should be used as part of a complete treatment plan including diet and exercise.

How is Rosulip used?
Rosulip come in a strip of 15 tablets, with each tablet containing 10mg orf the active ingredient rosuvastatin.

Follow the dosing instructions provided by your doctor. This will usually consist of lower starting dosage that may be gradually increased until an ideal dosage is reached.

Rosulip is an oral tablet that can be taken with or without food.

Adverse effects
Rosuvastatin may cause unwanted side effects in some people.

The following list of side effects should be considered serious. Contact your doctor or an emergence department right away if you notice any of these:

  • muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness
  • lack of energy
  • fever
  • chest pain
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • dark colored urine
  • pain in the upper right part of the abdomen
  • nausea
  • extreme tiredness
  • weakness
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • loss of appetite
  • flu-like symptoms
  • rash
  • hives
  • itching
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • hoarseness

These side effects are less serious and more common. Contact your doctor if they become persistent or troublesome.

  • constipation
  • stomach pain
  • dizziness
  • difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • depression
  • joint pain
  • headache
  • memory loss or forgetfulness
  • confusion

Warnings
Do not use Rosuvastatin if you have an allergy to it.

Tell your doctor of all medicines you are currently taking especially:

  • anticoagulants such as warfarin
  • colchicine
  • cimetidine
  • cyclosporine
  • eltrombopag (Promacta)
  • ketoconazole (Nizoral)
  • other medications for high cholesterol such as fenofibrate ,gemfibrozil, and niacin (Niaspan, Niacor)
  • certain HIV protease inhibitors including atazanavir and ritonavir, and lopinavir and ritonavir (Kaletra)
  • spironolactone

Aluminum and magnesium hydroxide antacids should be taken at least 2 hours prior to taken rosuvastatin.

Before taking rosuvastatin, tell your doctor if:

  • you have any form of liver disease
  • you have any form of kidney disease
  • you have any form of thyroid disease
  • you are Asian
  • you drink more than two alcoholic drinks a day
  • you are 65 years of age or older
  • you have had seizures
  • you have or have had low blood pressure
  • you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding
