What is Soloxine?
Soloxine contains the active ingredient Levothyroxine Sodium. It is used as a treatment for treats canine hypothyroidism in dogs. It works by by replenishing the dog`s thyroid hormone (T4) levels which helps compensate for the thyroid gland's insufficient production of hormones. Symptoms of hypothyroidism including increased weight, low activity levels, slow movement, hair loss, sensitivity to cold weather can be reduced by using Soloxine.

Canine thyroidism is most common in middle aged or older dogs, however young animals can also be affected. Soloxine can help to reverse symptoms of hypothyroidism by stimulating the dog's metabolism and growth of tissues. It also improves energy exchange. You will usually notice improvement in your dog's symptoms after four weeks of treatment with Soloxine. Benefits may include weight loss, healthier looking fur and increased activity levels in the dog.

How is Soloxine used?
Soloxine tablets contain 0.1mg of Levothyroxine Sodium. There is also a 0.3mg dosage available. The correct amount of medicine you dog will require is largely dependent on the weight of your dog. Your veterinarian will most often prescribe a starting dosage at a rate of rate of 0.1mg per 10lb of body weight, taken twice daily. Monthly medical tests may be performed to check the dog's blood thyroid levels, after which the dosage may be changed.

Soloxine tablets can be fed directly to the dog or mixed in with its food.

Adverse effects
If Soloxine (Levothyroxine Sodium) is administered in safe amounts as directed by the veterinarian, side effects are considered to be an uncommon occurrence. In cases of overdose, there may be some thyrotoxicosis. If your dog becomes unwell while taking Soloxine, or if you suspect it to be suffering from side effects take the dog to your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Warnings
Soloxine (Levothyroxine Sodium) should not be used in dogs who have suffered from acute myocardial infarction, adrenal insufficiency and thyrotoxicosis.

This is a pet medicine to be used by animals only. It must never be taken by humans and should be kept out of reach of children at all times.
