What is Terapress-2?
Terapress containing the active ingredient terazosin belongs to a class of medications called alpha blockers. The medication works by relaxing the blood vessels to allow for easier blood flow through the body to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Older men diagnosed with an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) may also use the medication to relax the muscles around the prostate and bladder to treat conditions such as difficulty urinating, weak stream, painful urination, incomplete bladder emptying as well as urinary frequency and urgency.
How is Terapress-2 used?
Terapress is usually taken orally once per day at bedtime unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food along with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patientís response to the therapy. It is not recommended to start the treatment with a dose of over 1mg as it may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure leading to dizziness or fainting.
Patients using Terapress may encounter minor side effects such as:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Excessive fatigue
- Stuffy or runny nose
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Blurred vision
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Painful erection that lasts for over 4 hours
- Irregular heartbeats
- Swelling of the legs and ankles
- Unexpected weight gain
The tablets can be used to treat hypertension but cannot be used to cure the condition.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
