What is Zithromac?
Zithromac can stop the growth of bacteria to allow the immune system time to kill the bacteria. The active ingredient azithromycin hydrate belongs to a class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. It can be used to treat conditions caused by bacteria such as skin infections, otitis media, respiratory infections and sexually transmitted diseases (STD). The tablets can be used to treat infections caused by bacteria but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the flu or common cold.
How is Zithromac used?
Zithromac should be used as directed by a doctor, usually once daily. The tablets should be taken with some food along with a glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the patientís condition and their response to the treatment. Do not discontinue the medication without completing the prescribed amount as it may allow the bacteria to return and become resistant to antibiotics.
Zithromac may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Stomach pain
- Upset stomach
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Extreme fatigue
- Hearing problems
- Vision problems
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Irregular heartbeat
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Zithromac is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
