What is Karvea?
Karvea containing the active ingredient irbesartan is classified as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist type of medication. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels to allow blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently. It can be used alone or along with other medications to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and preventing heart attacks and strokes. Some people may also use the medication to treat kidney diseases caused by type 2 diabetes.
How is Karvea used?
Karvea is usually taken orally once daily or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some fluids. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patientís condition and their reaction to the medication. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as high blood pressure often has no visible symptoms. The medication can be used to treat hypertension but cannot be used to cure the condition.
Patients using Karvea may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Upset stomach
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- High blood potassium level
- Irregular heartbeat
- Unusual decrease in amount of urine
- Mental or mood changes
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Decreased sex drive or performance
Pregnant women should not use the medication as it may cause serious and even potentially fatal harm to the fetus.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Karvea is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
