What is Otomax Ear Drops?
Otomax Ear drops containing the active ingredients gentamicin, betamethasone and clotrimazole have both anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties mainly prescribed to treat malassezia pachydermatis. The 3 active ingredients can work effectively on susceptible strains of bacteria. It is used in the treatment of acute external otitis and in the treatment of short term exacerbation of the acute signs of chronic external otitis of bacterial and fungal origin.

How is Otomax Ear Drops used?
Otomax Ear Drops is usually applied topically in the ear twice daily or as directed by a veterinarian. The usual dose for dogs weighting over 15kg is 8 drops to the ear twice per day while dogs weighting under 15kg are to have 4 drops administered to the ear twice daily. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage as it will depend on the dog’s weight, condition and their response to the medication. Gently massage the dog’s ear after applying the medication to allow the solution to penetrate to the lower part of the ear canal.

Adverse effects
Otomax Ear Drops may cause unwanted side effects such as:

  • Redness or blisters at application site
  • Kidney or ear damage
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Frequent urination
  • Increased thirst
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss

Contact a veterinarian immediately should side effects persist or worsen.

Warnings
Wash hands carefully after applying the product. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, rinse with copious amounts of water.

Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Otomax Ear Drops is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
