What is Prandial?
Prandial is a medication used in the management of type-2 diabetes mellitus in adults. The medication works by controlling high levels of sugar in the blood and making the body more sensitive to naturally produced insulin. It is usually a 2nd line treatment when diet, exercise and a single drug cannot provide an adequate glycemic control. Treating diabetes can help prevent kidney damage, blindness and peripheral nerve problems.
How is Prandial used?
Prandial is an orally administered medication usually taken 2 to 3 times per day unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with a meal along with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause a relapse in the condition.
Patients using Prandial may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Blurred vision
- Abdominal pain
- Taste disturbances
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Prandial is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
