Janumet (Sitagliptin / Metformin Hydrochloride) is used to control blood glucose (sugar) levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is used together with diet and exercise in patients whose blood glucose levels are not satisfactorily controlled with metformin (a diabetes medicine) used on its own, in patients who are already taking a combination of sitagliptin and metformin as separate tablets or in combination with a sulphonylurea, a PPAR-gamma agonist such as a thiazolidinedione, or insulin (other types of diabetes medicines) in patients whose blood glucose levels are not satisfactorily controlled with either of these medicines and metformin.

Januvia works by reducing the amount of glucagon and increasing the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar levels. The active ingredient sitagliptin is considered a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor type of medication. Controlling high blood sugar levels can help prevent sexual function problems, loss of limbs, nerve problems, vision problems and kidney damage. Proper control of diabetes can help lessen the risk of a stroke or heart attack.

Karvea works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels to allow blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently. It can be used alone or along with other medication to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and prevent strokes or heart attacks. Patients with type 2 diabetes may also use the medication to treat kidney diseases.
